Another combination worth noting down for next year: runner beans (the edible kind, not just the ornamental variety), sugar snap peas, sunflowers, and potatoes, all planted together across three rows.

The sunflowers give the climbers something tall to reach for and add height to what would otherwise be a fairly low bed, while the beans and peas fill in around the base.

Overall it worked well — everything got what it needed without crowding anything else out, and there’s something satisfying about a bed doing double duty as both food and a flower display.
