The last sunflowers of the season, cut alongside a handful of sweet peas and a stray cornflower that hung on longer than it should have.

By September the garden is winding down, but there’s usually still just enough for one more small bunch on the table — and after years of doing this, I still haven’t paid for a single one of them.
