How the bed is laid out

Corn growing tightly with climbing beans, and pumpkin sprawling between and around the plants in a lush tangle.

The classic Three Sisters as the mid-season crop, framed by spinach before and after: corn carries the beans, the beans feed the soil, the pumpkin keeps it covered. Bean of the year: Yin Yang. Tried the season before with good results.

A friendly reminder: every garden plays by its own rules. Zones, soil, weather and a hundred small things decide what works — so this is how I did it and what worked for me, not a promise. Try, learn, adjust, try again.. that's half the fun anyway.
