Autumn flowers from the garden. Companion planting is mostly there for the vegetables — pest control, pollinators, the practical reasons — but by late summer the beds are also just full of flowers worth cutting.
Sunflowers, cosmos and calendula, mostly — whatever’s flowering that week, gathered into whatever vase is closest to hand.
It costs nothing extra. The flowers were already doing a job in the garden; cutting a few for the kitchen table is just a bonus that comes with growing them in the first place.
