A jug of whatever was flowering that week, and a glass of wine on the garden table. This is one of the small luxuries that came free with growing my own cut flowers — no special occasion needed, no trip to a shop, just a few stems pulled from the beds on the way past.

It’s easy to underrate how much this adds up to. Not one big saving, just a lot of small ones — an evening like this costing nothing extra beyond what was already growing.
