Sowing cabbage early, starting it in buckets in the greenhouse, and only moving it outside once it’s properly established really is the best method I’ve found. It means we’ve had kale, broccoli, and cauliflower to harvest since the middle of May already.
Pointed cabbage is coming along behind it, following the same path — bucket first, ground later.
Every year I second-guess whether the extra bucket-stage effort is worth it, and every year the answer is the same: yes, unambiguously.
