The garlic bed is started. Ordered the heads a few weeks ago and have been waiting for the weather to get properly cold before planting — don’t want them sprouting above ground before the freeze hits.
Growing garlic is genuinely rewarding: minimum work, easy to store all year. This bed’s drip irrigation is already switched off, which garlic prefers — autumns here are rainy enough without extra water inviting rot.
Chicken manure first, weighed out carefully — the pellets are concentrated and easy to overdo.
Two varieties this year, Sabadrome and Sprint, both early and virus-controlled.
Cloves go in about 10 cm deep, roughly 15 cm apart — around 50 bulbs fit in one bed.
A layer of leaves on top to finish, and now it rests for winter.
