After a month’s break from the garden, it was seriously overgrown by the time I got back. Weeds had taken over in a few spots, but underneath all the green I found the treasures still there, nasturtiums, marigolds, and snapdragons that had done just fine on their own.
It took a couple of days of solid weeding to get things back in order, but there was something almost meditative about digging the vegetables back out of the weeds bit by bit.
