I stopped buying bagged soil a while back, and the advantages have added up: less plastic, less cost, and soil that actually matches what my own garden needs.
The one real downside is that home-made soil comes with weed seeds of its own, so there’s more sorting and weeding to do once things start sprouting. A trade I’m happy to keep making.
