Picked up another load of mulch today. I’ve learned a few things the hard way over the past couple of seasons about how thick a layer actually needs to be to do its job, so this round is going down with a bit more wisdom behind it.
Straw and hay make a real difference for moisture retention and weed suppression, but they’re also exactly the kind of cozy hiding spot slugs love — so it’s a balance, not just a matter of piling it on thick and walking away.
